I became interested in John Minton, the mid 20th century artist, after a documentary by Mark Gatiss in 2018. I particularly like his London/River Thames paintings. I read a biography of him and was touched by how dissatisfied he was with his life, and the sadness of his suicide aged 39. This is one of 2 portraits. I drew the outline on A3 paper (based on a photograph) and then used yellow, orange and blue paint to give an abstract effect.
